Subject : Coil Lashing guidance before loading

Always thank you for using COSCO service.

In order to prevent frequent accidents of coil cargo in advance, we share the work guide manual as below, so please be aware of the manual

and deliver the relevant work photo to our person in charge when you submit the booking.

Cosco staff will do their best to ensure that your cargo is shipped quickly and accurately and will try to get approval

for the shipment quickly based on the coil work photos and data you shared.

For Steel coil shipment, Please follow below general guide and send us lashing photo for checking before accepting as safety reason.

General policy is acceptable but there is a strict requirement on lashing.

If per coil more than 10 tons, We suggest to use Flatrack because floor payload of GP box is not enough to support.

For lashing, It is hard to say something as there is a several weight.

We may suggest to invite lashing company to do lashing and provide lashing report.

If shipper hope to lashing themselves, Then we has below general lashing method/picture for reference,

But need shipper to promise their doing is correct and suitable for sea transportation and provide LOI.

Refer to below picture, We has below introduction for your reference.

In the container floor, There are 17 cross member to support cargo. Distance between cross members is 35cm,

Each support 1.5 ton as designed calculation.

If each coil is approx 7 ton, So need let coil cross 7/1.5=4.6à5 cross member at least on longitudinal direction,

that distance is 6*0.35=2.1m.at least;  Length of square wooden will be  2.1 at least and Number is 7 p’s  depending on square wooden load capacity.

If each coil is approx 4 ton, So need let coil cross 4/1.5=2.66-à3 cross member at least on longitudinal direction, that distance is 3*0.35=1.05-à1.1m.at least; 

Length of square wooden will be 1.1m at least and Number is 4 p’s depending on square wooden load capacity.

n  Below lashing mothed is for your reference.Lashing method:

Standard of lashing material as general showing below:

--The maximum gross mass( cargo + bedding and securing + tare mass of unit ) must be within container payload

--The cargo mass should be distributed over sufficient length of Square timer on the container floor

--Coils should not rest directly on the floor;

--Cradle also known as wedge beds maybe used to support and retain the coils;

Coil should be adequately secured to the cradle or support arrangements.

--Ensure coil are secured adequately for avoiding moving inside the container

--Blocking/Bracing should be used to secure the coil and maybe used in combination with

lashing gear attached to the anchor points situated on the base structure of the container

--lashing turnbuckle with eye ring; 3 half circle each end and lashing wire with 17mm:

Open mouth is no allowed

For coil steel shipment：

Shipper must ensure that the lashing, bracing and bedding of the coil steel comply with the CSS CODE, the shipper shall takes full responsibility for any loss caused by bad lashing.

1. Shipper can only arrange for port entry upon approval by local OOG Desk based on below mentioned materials:

ü  lashing survey report (for first-time or irregular shipment customer, and the process should be supervised by a qualified third party)

ü  lashing photos (for customer of long-term standard coil steel shipment)

2. For bookings loaded on COSCO-SHIPPING-operated vessels, please provide lashing survey report or lashing photos with your booking # to following address ;

If any refusal notice from MOC received, the booking must be cancelled accordingly.
